Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and a kitschy morning

Hearts, circles, flowers and color. Lots of color. That's what comes to mind when I think of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. I admire her as businesswoman, although I don't like her designs. She started working in fashion in 1980 and since then she has come a long way. Her company now carries a wide variety of products, including fashion, kids and baby wear, home, stationary, technology, playgrounds, helmets. You name it.
Agatha came to Peru with her partner and their children and this morning she gave a conference at USIL. I got there a little late so I couldn't hear the conference but I got to see her and the unveiling of a mural designed by her and painted by the students of the university. Although I think it's great that the university organized a conference with such a great businesswoman I can't help but to share how funny the whole thing was (the unveiling at least). Agatha went out of the conference followed by 30 girls in yellow t-shirts and clownish hats (the ones you get in parties or the stadium)  and then was met by harlequins in stilts  to unveil the mural. In the background some girl saying "what's all the fuzz about? she's not Beyonce or anything". Funny. Kitschy.

Corazones, círculos, flores y color. Mucho color. Eso es lo que se me viene a la mente  cuando pienso en Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Debo decir que la admiro como empresaria aunque realmente no me gustan sus diseños. Ella comenzó trabajando en moda en 1980 y desde ahí ha logrado mucho. Su compañía ahora ofrece una gran cantidad de productos, incluyendo moda, ropa de niños y bebés, artículos para el hogar, papelería, accesorios para mascotas, parques infantiles, tecnología, cascos. Todo lo que se te ocurra.


Agatha vino a Perú con su compañero y sus hijos y esta mañana dio una conferencia en USIL. Llegué un poco tarde, así que ya no pude entrar a la conferencia pero al menos logré verla a ella y al develamiento del mural que diseñó, y que fue pintado por alumnos de la universidad. 
Me parece genial que la universidad haya organizado una conferencia con una empresaria tan exitosa que puede compartir tantas experiencias en el mundo del diseño, pero no puedo evitar contarles lo gracioso que fue todo el evento (por lo menos el develamiento). Agatha salió de la conferencia seguida de unas 30 chicas con polos amarillos y sombreros de esos que te dan en la 'hora loca' de las fiestas, o que usas en los estadios, y luego fue recibida por arlequines en zancos para develar el mural. En el fondo una chica diciendo "Por qué tanta cosa? ni que fuera Beyonce". Todo muy gracioso. Y un poco kitsch.
